Pet Exams & Vaccinations in Rensselaer & Surrounding Areas

Pets are like people in many ways, including their need for health checkups every year. These checkups, also known as wellness exams, serve as the first line of defense against illnesses and as a means of preventive care. Vaccines, which are typically administered after the wellness exam, are an equally important means of preventive care. PetVets on the Go can provide both of these services for your companion in the comfort of your home, whether you live in Rensselaer or in a neighboring county. With annual or bi-annual exams, we can help keep your pet healthy for longer and catch signs of disease sooner.

About Your Pet’s Wellness Exam

During your pet’s wellness visit, we’ll examine her from nose-to-tail to determine if everything is functioning properly and appears normal. This includes a weight check, heart rate measurement, and oral evaluation as well. We can then discuss our recommendations for treatment (dental cleaning, surgery, etc.) or advanced diagnostics, if necessary. The wellness visit is a great time to let us know about any concerns you have, especially if you’ve noticed changes in your pet’s eating habits or behavior. After all, no one knows your four-legged friend better than you do.

Pet Vaccinations

Vaccines help protect your canine or feline friend from illnesses by stimulating the body to develop antibodies to a particular virus or bacteria, which then help strengthen the immune system. Vaccines are separated into core and non-core vaccines. Core vaccines are those that are recommended either because the virus/disease is severe and/or common or because it can pose a threat to humans. Some of the core vaccines we recommend include:

  • Rabies (required by law)
  • Canine parvovirus
  • Canine hepatitis
  • Canine distemper
  • Feline calicivirus
  • Feline rhinotracheitis
  • Feline panleukopenia

To best accommodate our patients’ needs, we customize vaccination schedules based on your pet’s breed, lifestyle, and risk of exposure. This information helps us determine which, if any, non-core vaccines should be administered.
